Car Accident Injury Treatment

What To Expect After a Car Accident:

  • If you have been in a car crash one of the most common injuries is to the upper spine, and neck.
  • Other common symptoms include joint pain, muscle pain, headaches, arm pain and leg pain.
  • These symptoms occur when the vertebral joints and associated muscles and nerves are subjected to uncommon forces and movements associated with a car accident.
  • Some people develop pain, stiffness and other symptoms 7-10 days after an accident. This is not unusual. Do not delay in seeking help and treatment.
  • Effects of substantive crashes may recur over 6-18 months. For most people, the pain and other symptoms associated with spinal injury usually decreases with gradual return to normal activity.
  • The amount of disruption to normal activities varies with the circumstances of the crash.

Our Goal is Your Maximum Possible Recovery

We want you to focus your energy on healing. If you have been in an accident, it is important to see a physiotherapist as soon as possible. We diagnose the injuries you have sustained as a result of the motor vehicle accident and treat those injuries and their resulting disabilities. It is also our job to properly document your injuries, disabilities and treatment. Without proper documentation there is no legal proof or evidence of your injuries or disabilities. We will obtain and compile documentation that is valid and medically necessary regarding your injuries. Valid documentation includes diagnostic studies such as X-ray, MRI, and CT scans. Objective findings, including determination of any loss of movement of a joint or “palpating” muscle to feel for tightness, rigidity, or “spasm” are intricate parts of your exam. If any permanency is noted it will be well documented and a request for on-going treatment will be in order.

Call us today to schedule your initial consultation at one of our 6 locations – including our brand new physiotherapy clinic at Yonge & Sheppard.

Most people who are involved in motor vehicle accidents recover fully, there is no reason to think that you won’t either.  You are in good hands and our Registered Physiotherapists will work to ensure you reach you maximum possible physical recovery.
In our experience patients who try integrating work early in their recovery perform best both emotionally and physically.  That being said if your job has physical demands our registered physiotherapists need to know them to assist you with a work site analysis to ensure your return to work is successful.
The first insurer is always your personal work policies (Extended Health Benefits).  Then your auto insurance policy will pay.  It’s a complicated system of submitting first to your work insurance and then showing your auto insurer the statement but we have been doing this for a long time and have made the process as straightforward as possible.
Your recovery at Focus Physiotherapy and the rate of recovery will depend on many factors: your prior health, your level of injuries and their severity, your participation and compliance with the treatment program created by your registered physiotherapist.  Our treatment plans our centred around you, the more you devote to the program the quicker you will recover.
It’s normal to be hesitant to drive after an accident, it would be strange if you weren’t apprehensive.  Every move another driver makes raises your anxiety level.  Yet if this feeling does not subside as you continue to get further away from your accident date we can help.  Services such as driver retraining and coping can be arranged for you.
