Frequently Asked Questions:

1- How long will it take me to get better?

You will start feeling better often by the end of your first session, but it may take many weeks of work on our part to completely resolve the issue.  Your success will depend on your efforts and how well you follow our plan for your recovery.

2- I have had shoulder pain for years, is it possible for me to feel better?

Definitely!  Many of our patients have experienced shoulder pain for very long periods of time and they finally decided to stop dealing with the pain and come to us for help.  It's always satisfying when someone who lost hope starts feeling relief for the first time.

3- My work all day is pretty sedentary?

Working on a keyboard and mouse all day is stressful for your shoulder, arm and neck.  People were not designed to stare at screens or type all day; we were designed to be active!  Inactivity causes areas to tighten up and increases joint dysfunctions.  The result is increased aches and pains.

4- If I am in physiotherapy will my daily activities and work activities such as playing with my children, lifting and handling objects make my pains worse?

Probably, but we will teach you techniques to minimize their impact on your recovery.  You will never be able to completely eliminate painful activities during your recovery period, but our education component will prepare you to deal with flare ups and setbacks due to unexpected activities your life throws your way.

5- Will my recovery be smooth and without any flare ups?

Many people experience a flare up of symptoms due to increases in their activities at work or at home.  Sometimes all it takes is their child to pull their arm a little too hard.  These setbacks happen and our registered physiotherapists at Focus Physiotherapy know how to handle them.  We will reassure you and guide you through these periods and hopefully you will not experience a flare up, but if you do we will minimize its effect on you.

6- What is the most important component of my physiotherapy treatment?

Communication.  Communication involves conveying a message and listening to the response.  Our therapists know to listen to your responses and work with you based on the needs you outlines as important.  Consequently while it is important for you to communicate your needs to your registered physiotherapist it is of singular importance that our instructions to you are followed to ensure our treatment plans are given the opportunity to help you.

7- It's my body, why should I listen to you?  I know what needs to be done to get better.

It is your body, and you have a right to not participate in any component of care we propose but our goal is to decease your pain and improve your function.  We are advising you in our trusted capacity as your registered physiotherapist, we take this duty of care seriously.  Your sincere participation in our treatment plan will allow us to get you better.  We want to work with you and your presence in our clinic means you are ready to work with registered physiotherapists who care.
